Spring's in full swing!

Howdy Friends and welcome to Homestead Blessings!
We have updated and re-created a new look to our blog and hope you all will enjoy taking a browse through and find something new to look at!
Life has settled into late spring, early summer rhythm, the early garden is prolific with produce and the later crops are coming along nicely. With all the rain we've been having it seems like things are growing over night! The heat has finally hit us though with temperatures in the 90's and humidity rising every day. But there is still a nice breeze through the valley and it brings with it the sweet, sweet aroma of blackberry blossoms, honeysuckle and wild roses. Canning season is just barely around the bend with crops like snow peas, new potatoes, cabbage, and strawberries being harvested now. We've been canning dried black beans and pinto beans that we've had in storage for a couple of years. They have turned out beautifully and we're excited about being able to just open a jar for bean soup instead of soaking and boiling for days. We've got a lot of projects looming ahead of us these next couple of weeks, building an outdoor shower, breaking in the filly, more plowing, and planting field corn and purple hull peas- just to name a few. So with that I'm gunna sign off and go check the canner on the woodstove… Y'all have a blessed day!

All of you have been quite busy :) The rain that has visited your valley, has eluded our mountains...but I am hoping that rain will visit soon.

Thank you for giving me a glimpse of your lovely valley... m.

Thank you so much for your newest post! Your blog looks so pretty! Up here in Central Indiana things are growing well, too! My raised bed gardens are doing great! I keep telling my husband I may have to hire some workers to help me harvest my tomatoes and green beans! Just joking, I only have 8 raised beds...We have purchased chickens and now have 12 gorgeous birds running around our little place. Thanks for all your great videos and information! You are a wonderful help! (I THINK I have all your videos now!)
Blessings,
Beth

Love the look of your blog and I really enjoy our visits. Your garden in beautiful and I'm sure you're all enjoying its bounty. There's just nothing better than home-grown food, is there? I have all of your videos and watch them all the time. They give me such a peaceful feeling as i watch the simplicity of your lives. In today's hectic world, it's so nice to just sit and watch as you live your daily lives. Blessings to all of you dear friends.

I am in Tennessee as well but do not have a garden so i just live vicariously through you.
If I might suggest the horse be called "Buttercup" since it is in that lovely field and is a lovely pale color? Just a thought. Happy gardening.

Thanks y'all for all the great comments!

Dear Beth,
About hiring help- how 'bout having a "working" party with friends and in return you give them tomatoes or help them in their gardens, or canning or quilting etc. Just thinking.

Dear 5N Family,
We are going with many projects at this time. Homesteading itself keeps us happily very busy. We do hope to do a few more "hints" videos soon. Thank you for all your interest and your patience.!

Martyso...
Thank you so much for the name suggestion for our palomino filly!

It was great to hear from all of y'all! Thank you for being our friends.
Many Blessings,
Vicki

It would be such a blessing to see a video on how to harvest seeds for the next planting.

Greetings West ladies!

First I just want to say that my family and I just enjoy your DVDs quite a bit! :)

Your palomino filly is beautiful! She reminds me of palomino mare. I see that you are still thinking of a name for her and I thought I'd throw out my own mare's name. She has a registered name but her barn name is Pollyanna or Polly for short. She was also named Polly short for Palomino. :)

Any way, I hope you are able to find the perfect name for her (naming a new animal is always fun for me on my small farm).

May God bless your family and hard work and I look forward to any new DVDs you come out with.

Blessings,
Bekah

beautiful pasture, beautiful nature. it's look so natural. Your hard works was inspiring me to spend the time effectivelly. its really productive garden, productive time... great! My country is in tropic area. The season sometimes very extreme. Rightnow, the rain falls so hard, the wind blows so hard and the weather so cold. My garden looks so crowded. Oh My God...
